I'd been holding my breath every time she yawned since spring. I could smell it from across the room. Three weeks into Mabel she yawned right next to me and all I smelled was her dinner. Her breath has been like that most days since.

After every cleaning, her stinky breath came back a month or two later. It came back like clockwork every time. This time I started Mabel right after the cleaning. Two months went by, then three, and I noticed her breath wasn't as bad. Every time she came in for a head bump, I held my breath out of habit. But I didn't need to anymore.

He'd fight me every time the toothbrush came out, and I could never get to his back teeth. His breath stayed bad anyway, and I smelled it every time he yawned. About five weeks into Mabel, he yawned on my lap one night. And that's when I realized I hadn't noticed his breath in days.

    Directions For Use

One and a half scoops a day, mixed into your cat's food. The scoop is in the tub.

It mixes best into wet food. If your cat eats dry, add a splash of water so the powder sticks.

If your cat is wary of anything new in the bowl, start with half a scoop. And up the dose over the next few days.

One 100 g tub lasts one cat about 33 days. Two cats go through two tubs a month.

    How it Works

Plaque is soft at first. It builds up on your cat's teeth after every meal.

Then calcium from your cat's saliva hardens it into tartar. The vets at VCA Animal Hospitals say that starts within 24 hours.

Zeolite is a mineral that soaks up calcium. Mabel puts it in a bacon-flavored powder for your cat's food, along with six types of good bacteria.

      FAQ

      help

      Which cats is this for?

Cats with plaque or tartar building up, or breath you can smell, who still eat normally. If your cat is eating less, chewing on one side or drooling, see the vet first.

      help

      How do I give it?

One and a half scoops a day in your cat's food. For a fussy eater, start with half a scoop and work up.

      help

What if my cat won't eat it?

It's bacon flavored, so it smells like food. Starting with half a scoop helps a wary cat. If yours still won't eat it, you get your money back and won't have to send anything back.

      help

Does it work with dry food?

It mixes best into wet food. For dry food, add a little water first so the powder sticks.

      help

      What's the probiotic blend for?

Bad breath in cats comes from the bacteria in plaque. This blend has six types of good bacteria, and it's there for the bacteria side of the problem. The zeolite is there for the calcium side. The FOS on the label is food for the good bacteria.

      help

      Is whey dairy?

Yes. Dried whey and whey solids come from milk. They're part of the base the powder is made with, not active ingredients. Some cats don't handle dairy well, and loose stool is the usual sign. If that happens, stop. If dairy has upset your cat before, ask your vet before you start.

      help

      Isn't Aspergillus a mold?

Yes, Aspergillus is a mold. These two are the ones used to make food. Aspergillus oryzae is the koji behind soy sauce and miso, and Aspergillus niger is used to make citric acid. The powder has dried extracts from fermenting them, which are common in pet supplements.

      help

My cat already has tartar. Is this still for them?

Yes. Fresh plaque forms every time your cat eats, tartar or no tartar, and this is made for that plaque. The tartar already there stays until a vet cleaning takes it off.

      help

My cat lets me brush. Do I still need this?

Keep brushing. And use the powder as well. One doesn't replace the other.

      help

I have two cats. How much do I need?

Each cat gets one and a half scoops a day, so one tub lasts two cats about two weeks. The bundles bring the price per tub down.

      help

      Is it safe alongside medication?

Ask your vet. Print the ingredient list, take it in, and ask whether anything on it clashes with what your cat is already taking. Do the same if your cat has kidney disease or another health condition.

      help

When should I see a vet instead?

Call the vet the same day if your cat stops eating or eats much less. A cat that goes without food can get sick fast. Also see the vet for red, swollen or bleeding gums, chewing on only one side, drooling, or a tooth that looks pink near the gum line.
